With the wake of advanced messaging apps like WhatsApp and iMessage, most people choose to leave their text message conversations running. This allows for tracking of the history of text discussions. However, one may need to delete some text messages immediately they have been read and replied to. Different phone models provide different ways of clearing text messages conversations. This article outlines the step-by-step procedure on how to clear text messages on iPhone. Steps to delete entire text message conversation
1. On your iPhone, tap the Messages app (It's on the home screen by default; unless icons have been re-arranged on your iPhone)
2. You'll see the conversation if you were on it the last time you used the app. Tap the arrow at the top left to open the list of conversations. If you were not yet in a conversation, a list of all conversations will be shown.
3. Find the conversation to be deleted. Swipe left to right for iOS 6 or earlier; right to left for iOS 7 or later. Tapping the Edit button at the screen top; then tapping the circle to the left of each conversation also works well.
4. A Delete button will appear to the right if you chose to swipe across the conversation. If you tapped the Edit button, the delete button will be at the screen's bottom right corner.
5. Tap either button to clear the entire conversation.
Steps to clear individual text messages on iPhone
You may want to clear a few messages while preserving your overall conversation. Here are the steps:
1. Tap the Messages app
2. Tap the conversation with the messages you want to clear
3. Within the conversation, what you do next will depend on your iOS version.
-In iOS 6 or lower, there's an Edit button at the top right. Tap it.
-In iOS 7 or higher, tap and hold on to a message. A menu will pop up, then tap some more.
4. A small circle appears next to each individual message.
5. Tap the circle next to a message to make it for deletion. A checkbox will appear in the box; showing it will be deleted.
6. Check all messages that you want to clear.
7. When it's done, tap the Delete button - or Delete All, depending on your iOS version.
In some cases, one might mistakenly tap Edit or More, with no intention of deleting any texts. In such a case, don't tap any of the circles - just exit by tapping Done or Cancel (depending on your iOS version).
