If you have recently switched to a Windows Phone from a BlackBerry phone, then you are likely facing trouble getting in touch with your family, friends and people because your contacts are still in your BlackBerry handset. This means that the first thing you should do is transfer contacts from BlackBerry to Windows Phone and here you will learn how to do that through your computer.

Transfer Contacts from BlackBerry to Windows Phone Using BlackBerry Desktop Software

This entire method of transferring contacts from Blackberry to Windows Phone will depend on using the BlackBerry Desktop software. It is best if you use the latest version of your software. Once you have downloaded and installed the software on your PC, you can follow the steps below.

Step 1: Use the correct USB cable to connect your BlackBerry phone to your computer.

Step 2: Launch the BlackBerry Desktop and once your BlackBerry device has been detected, select it and click on "Organizer".

Step 3: In "Organizer", add a tick next to "Contacts" and then click "Configure". In the pop-up menu, set the "Sync direction" to "One way to your computer and Windows contacts" and click “OK”.

Step 4: Finally, on the bottom right of the window, you will notice "Sync Organizer", click it and then click "Sync All". This will transfer your contacts from your BlackBerry phone to the Contacts folder if your computer's OS is Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. If your computer has a previous version of Windows installed, then the contacts will be transferred to Outlook Express (Address Book).

Step 5: Open your Contacts folder or Outlook Express (Address Book), depending on the version of Windows installed on your computer. From there you should be able to export your contacts to a CSV file. The CSV file will be saved on your computer as a backup of your Contacts.

Step 6: Now to transfer the CSV file to your Windows phone, you will have to use a Microsoft Account, which you likely already have. Make sure the Microsoft account that you use is also synced with your Windows phone. Log into "Outlook" with that Windows account and select "People" after clicking the arrow new to Outlook.

Step 7: Click "People" and the click "Import from file". This will allow you to import the CSV file you stored on your computer. So, select the CSV file wherever you saved it and then click "Import contacts".

This will not only sync your contacts to your Windows Phone, but they will also be available online through your Windows account. If you ever decide to switch from your Windows Phone to some other handset, you will just have to sign in with the same Microsoft account on that new phone and your contacts will be imported.
