If you recently switched to an Android device after using a Windows smart phone for quite some time, your first priority is probably to transfer your contacts to your new phone. Fortunately, email synchronization makes this possible without the use of a computer and wires. In fact, you can transfer the contacts even without your Windows Phone device.

Use A Microsoft ID Email Account to Sync Contacts

Step 1: Your Android device likely has an Email app that you should launch. Unless this is the first time you are using a configured email account, you can ignore the following step.

Step 2: After selecting "Accounts" from the "Menu", you will have to tap "Add Account" after pressing the "Menu" button again. Since you likely set up your Windows phone using your full email address and password, you will be able to enter them now. After entering them, you can proceed by tapping "Next".

Step 3: If you are not sure what type of account you should set up, you should check with your email provider and tap "IMAP" or "POP3" accordingly.

Step 4: Your account will be set up automatically, especially if you are using a free service like Hotmail, Outlook or Yahoo. If automatic setup does not succeed, you can manually enter the server settings of your account by following the on-screen prompts.

Step 5: In order to sync, "Contacts" must be enabled. However, other data can also be enabled for syncing as well, such as calendar, email and notes. After completing the modifications, you can tap "Done".

Step 6: Now you will have to launch the Contacts app from the Home screen of your Android device. The syncing of the information will take a couple of minutes, and once it is complete, your Android smart phone will have all your contacts on the Windows Phone device.

Export Contacts to Windows Live (Hotmail/Outlook) & Transfer Them to the Google Account

Step 1: After syncing your Microsoft account and Windows Phone with each other, you will have to sign in to your Outlook account and select "People" from the drop down menu. After choosing "Manage" and "Export", you can store your exported contacts on your PC, in the form of a file "WLMContacts.csv" by pressing "Save".

Step 2: Next you will have to sign in to your Gmail account. From the "More" menu in the "Contacts" page, you will have to choose "Import". This will allow you to upload the "WLMContacts.csv" file and transfer your Windows Live Contacts to Gmail. The import process will begin once you press the "Import" button.

Step 3: Finally, you can visit your Android smart phone's "Settings" and select "Accounts and Sync". After clicking "Manage Accounts", you can "Add" or select the Gmail account you imported your WLM contacts into. Finally, you can complete the transfer by pressing "Sync Contacts".

While the above two methods are certainly effective and one of them does not even require the use of a computer, they are still somewhat confusing and tricky.
