If you purchased a brand new Android smart phone, you probably want to set it up just the way you had set up your old handset; with all of the apps you had in it. While it will be fun to use your new smart phone, before you can do that you will have to decide how you are going to transfer all your previous data, including your apps, to your new Android phone.

Considering that you specifically want to transfer your apps to your new Android phone, it can be assumed that our old handset is also an Android phone too. It is possible that you may have considered transferring the apps from your old handset to its micro SD card, popping out the card and inserting it in your new Android smart phone. However, it is not necessary that you will be able to transfer all of the apps. Even if you manage to transfer all the apps to the card, you may discover that crucial data from the internal storage of your old handset, which is essential for the apps to functional properly, is not present in your new Android phone.

Actually, you can back up your entire old handset (apps and all) by "nandroid backups" conveniently. A nandroid backup is basically a system image of a handset, in order words your handset's entire system is backed up as a single image that can be transferred to a new phone. You may follow the steps:

Step 1: Boot your old handset and set it into recovery mode.

Step 2: After you have set your handset in recovery mode, choose "nandroid" and then "backup". This will begin the backup process of your old handset's entire system.

Step 3: After the completion of the backup, you will be able to find the backup file in the root directory on the internal storage or micro SD card of your handset.

Step 4: Now choose one of several different methods to transfer the backup file from your old handset to your new Android smart phone. You can transfer the backup file to a Dropbox account, if you have one, and download it on your new phone from there. You can also insert the micro SD card from your old handset into the new one, or transfer the backup file to your PC and then to your new phone.

Step 5: Once the backup file has been transferred, boot your new Android smart phone and set it into recovery mode too. Follow "Step 2" instead of choosing "backup", choose "restore" and then select the backup file. This will begin the restore, and once it is complete you can reboot your phone. Your new Android smart phone will now have the apps that were stored in your old handset.

No doubt, different programs function differently, some may just back up apps and/or settings, while others create complete Android backups.
