When you upgrade from a Symbian phone to a Windows Phone device, it becomes difficult to transfer contacts and messages from the old Symbian phone to the new Windows Phone due to their different operating systems. Below are different ways that you can use to transfer contacts from Symbian to Windows Phone.

Use Contact Transfer Utility:

Every Windows Phone has a utility called "Contact Transfer". This utility provides its users with a simple way of getting contacts from a Symbian phone to a Windows Phone device. The contacts transfer takes less than a minute depending on the number of contacts to be transferred, and after that short period of time the thumbnail images and fields will all be on the Windows Phone.

The Contact Transfer utility is found on the main applications menu on Windows Phones. The Contact Transfer utility runs like a wizard so one is guided every step of the way. Here is a walk-through on how to transfer contacts from Symbian to Windows Phone:
1. Turn the Bluetooth on in the Symbian phone. Go to settings and choose connectivity and enable Bluetooth.
2. In the Windows Phone start the utility and turn on Bluetooth when prompted. A list of Bluetooth devices visible will be listed.
3. Choose the Bluetooth device that you want to copy contacts from. The user must confirm the connection on the Symbian Phone when prompted. Note: The Symbian device will ask you if it is okay to authorize the Windows Phone. When you authorize the Windows Phone, they will be no future prompts, and this reduces the number of screen taps.
4. The Windows Phone will now scan the contacts in the Symbian phone. After the scan is complete, it will display the number of entries found in the Symbian phone. To continue with the transfer tap on "Continue". It will take a minute or even less and the transfer will be complete.
5. It is also important to note that if the contacts in the Symbian phone have no name details, they will not be transferred to the Windows Phone.

Use Transfer My Data:

One can use an application such as "Transfer My Data". The app offers a simple way to its users to copy contacts from a variety of phones which includes - Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Symbian and many other types of phones. Users do this by using the Bluetooth feature found in most of the phones today. Some phones such as Lumia phones can transfer both pictures and text messages. The app usually creates copies of the contacts in the Windows Phone, and users can easily follow, chat, mail and call friends on their social network of their choice. The application can also transfer MMS messages to the phone's SD card and from the SD card.
To transfer contacts from Symbian to Windows Phone using the Transfer My Data app, you can follow the steps below:
1. Download the Transfer My Data app.
2. Enable Bluetooth both on the Windows and Symbian phones.
3. Launch the app in the Windows Phone and pair the two devices.
4. On the Symbian phone, allow the pairing and give the Windows Phone access to contacts information.
5. The Windows Phone will scan and find the number of contacts in the Symbian device. The user must confirm the contacts transfer when prompted and give it a minute for the transfer to be completed.
